Piracy has posed a threat to the music industry since its inception. It is a fact, that our neighbouring countries have seen piracy almost killing the local music industry and no major mainline record companies are able to operate in these countries today. The advances in technology has made it exceedingly easy for pirates to earn huge unjust income from the creative efforts of musicians, songwriters and singers and the companies who invest in nurturing and promoting their talents. The recent liberalization of the Indian economy which has resulted in the Indian market being flooded with various multinational brands, has also contributed more to this issue. This has created an ideal market for people trying to misuse existing brand values that have been cultivated & nurtured by companies over the years & it has assumed alarming proportions all over the country. The pirates apart from not having to bear any royalty or marketing costs are depriving the public exchequer of crores of rupees in legitimate taxes. The object of a ‘pirate’ is to make quick money and avoid payment of taxes and royalties. Books, recorded music, video cassettes of films, T.V programmes, computer programs, brand names for jeans, sun glasses etc. (the list is endless) are reproduced, distributed, sold on a massive scale without any remuneration to the authors, artists, and licensed publishers, producers or manufacturers concerned. It is estimated that loss of the owners of IPR (copyright, trademarks and patents) and to the Government (in terms of tax evasion) amounts to 100s of crores of rupees annually. If you are one of those who wish to see Christian Recordings prosper, please do not make copies of them. Doing so is illegal as per the copyright laws, and also you are stealing somebody’s intellectual property. Please understand that this will affect the ministry of the artistes, singers and the publishing companies. So we humbly request you to respect this ministry, which will greatly help us serving you better in the future. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands... Ephesians 4:28. (NIV) |
